This simple 3-step guide walks you through exactly how to receive your tax refund with your Platinum smiONE™ Visa® Prepaid Card.

Step 1: File Your Taxes

Start by filing your tax return using the method that works best for you, whether that’s an online tax software or a tax professional. Before you file, make sure you have all the required tax documents, including your W-2 form from your employer and any additional income or deduction records.

Depending on your situation, you may also need:

  • 1099 forms (for contract work, side income, or interest earned)
  • Receipts or records for deductible expenses or charitable donations
  • Documents related to education, childcare, or healthcare expenses
  • Personal information for your spouse or dependents, including Social Security numbers

Step 2: Enter Your smiONE Direct Deposit Information

As part of the filing process, you’ll need to provide the account information where your tax refund should be deposited. To receive your refund on your smiONE Card, you’ll enter your smiONE direct deposit details on your tax return.

When prompted, enter your smiONE routing and account numbers exactly as they appear in your account. Entering this information correctly helps ensure your refund is delivered without delays. Then, select “Checking” for the account type.

Tip: To help avoid processing issues, make sure the personal information on your tax return matches the information on your smiONE account. You can review and update these details by visiting the Personal Info tab in your smiONE mobile app or online account center before filing.

Step 3: Receive and Access Your Refund

After your tax return is processed and your refund is issued, the funds will be deposited directly onto your smiONE Card using the account information you provided. 

Once your refund is deposited, you can access your money right away using your smiONE Card for everyday purchases, bill payments, or cash withdrawals at eligible ATMs. You can always view your balance and manage transactions through the smiONE mobile app or online account center.
